Daily Poem
Updated: Aug 15

15 minutes. 1 poem. Every day. For as long as I can.
A book on this table,
A movie for my eyes
A treat in my mouth,
A smile for this maple,
A ring on my finger,
A pencil in my hand,
Glasses on my head,
A purposed place to stand,
A jacket made of sunshine,
A shirt made of warmth,
Shoes on my feet,
Protection on my seat,
Friends on the beach,
Friends at my home,
Friends to see at parties,
Everywhere for friends.
Sleep
Peaceful, graceful, sublime,
Sleep.
A break from the world, a break from the stress,
You fall to bed quickly, you wake up a mess,
But perfection is not clean,
And so isn’t your hair,
So you clean up a great deal,
To show that you care,
The irony there,
That we need something more,
After we wake,
Just to walk out the door
I talked to her last night
I thought it was alright,
We texted just like normal,
But she then was so formal.
I’m a little frustra-rated
I howled into the night,
The air so full of spite,
The world became a washing bowl,
For Bitter’s vague delight.
I’m a little frustra-rated
The river crashed and churned,
The dam it oh so spurned,
Human made creation,
Pattern of sublation.
I’m a little frustra-rated.
A lot comes from chemistry.
And a lot from biology,
The impulses in my brain,
To the muscles that I strain,
Even pain, and happiness;
And joy and fear and guileful jest,
If all that cannot be seen,
If the world spins round because of quarks,
A million seconds and a million forks,
A million things I could do today,
So many ways to do and say
So how can you worry,
and how can you grate,
When the line of true choice is so muddled by fate?
I love my bed,
A place I read,
The place you create,
Before you’re dead,
People, dreams and inspiration,
Magical, mystical, incantation,
Moving, masterly, projects of pace,
Where the world evolves the human race,
A hundred things are said and heard,
A hundred people lost for words,
A love connection,
A new direction,
A sickly body,
A doctor’s mention,
A crying child,
A worried father,
A boy’s first kiss,
A smiling daughter,
A comfortless frame,
A world of shame,
A 5 start resort,
An army fort,
The bed unites us,
In what we do,
In what we need, to get us through,
In where we’ve been,
And where we’re going,
A check-in point, for human sowing,
We build in life,
Throughout the night,
Because of love,
Despite the strife
Took a test today,
Kinda rough today,
Didn’t know what where why and who was going on,
Throwing on,
Everything math symbols kinetics formula and algebra,
An enigma,
White paper sheet full of ink stuff,
Mindless fluff,
I took a test today.
Wholesale black beans,
Full season green garlic,
Avocado french toast,
Momma’s favorite chuck roast,
A garden full of tasty fruits,
A garden full of vegetables,
All these things I like to eat,
The ground beneath becomes my feet,
The world alone will change and move,
The dirt will live and the sun will smile,
You and I are but one earth,
Eternal, maternal, without guile
24 hours,
That’s the time it takes,
To reach a new day,
Tick, tickety-tock.
2 minutes,
That’s the time it takes,
To hold a plank,
And start to shakety-shake.
5 seconds,
That’s the time it takes,
When you see her face
Wake, wakey-wake.
75 years,
That’s the time it takes,
To live a life,
To reach your fate.
4 billion years,
That’s the time it takes,
For the earth to exist,
For this moment to state,
That every second is a living relativity game
Religiously lame,
Until the beauty and the love come from one and the same,
Relativity flame
Fish go swimming
Can’t you see,
Flicking, dancing, in the sea
Stripes and shades and polka dotts,
Darting, dashing, with no thoughts
Up in currents,
Down on rocks,
Walking, playing,
Running around,
Some are sunny,
One’s a clown
Talking, hoping,
Dreaming, being,
Fish are people all worth seeing
DiscoMfy,
discomfort with the Laugh
discomfy with the w o r d s,
discomfy with the vibe I Get,
Don’t You know? yeah you know what I mean
I Mean
discomfy like an itch,
DiscoMfy like a Bug,
DisComfy like the way you smile when YOU see a bad performancE,
dISComfy in your stomach,
DiScOMFY in your stance,
DiscomFY in the way you fLOw,
iN the wAy that yOu daLLy
Flat tire,
On the road,
In the rain,
Not the snow,
Flat tire,
On the road,
Where I went,
Is not where I’ll go.
Flat tire,
On the road,
Going fast,
Now going slow….
In the stormy night,
There came some rain,
Through the hills,
All the same,
Dark and wet and angry and mad,
Lightning clashes and all seems sad,
By the cozy fire you knit,
Aware of all the thrashing and fighting,
A hundred rain drops flying and dying,
By the window they dash in a fit,
In the night they see you sit.
It came like a fire,
It came like a flame,
A man his hopes his dreams his work always insane,
Always so impossible,
Always so improbable,
Always so unbelievably inconceivable,
He owned what he could though,
He knew what he could write though,
Every word every letter a plank unto his ark no
Not everyone saw,
Few people understood,
Most thought he was crazy and his ideas absurd
But his pen met paper
And his brain fought Cain,
His vision became what could not what would not be restrained
And the life that he saw,
The beauty that was lame,
He gave it legs it walked it ran it traveled without refrain
To the ends of the earth,
And back again,
It brought joy it brought life without
preferation.
Cold rain in the sky,
Warm delicious pumpkin pie,
Thanksgiving huzzah
Hot
A thought
A moment caught
A crystal shot
All failing forgot
Understandable knot
An opportunity sought
Hot
Darkness in the air
Cold everywhere,
Jingle on the street
Ain’t that kinda neat
It’s the holidays
It's the Christmas time
This is sublime
Hear me see me shine
Wow, the wind is strong,
Feisty, a fiery throng
Oxygen, nitrogen and CO2
Cascading, playing, in its zoo
Always trapped by the world
Perfectly mobile in its swirl,
Never ignored
Always seen
The wind and its fury,
Forever free
A thousand painted photographs,
A hundred memories
You and I will never die,
But love in harmony
A dozen whispered truths,
A decade spent in youth,
You and I will always fly,
Together in the birdless sky,
A couple sacred oaths,
One kiss shared and close,
You and I will laugh again,
With hopes and dreams until the end
Life’s too short
To not have fun,
To know yourself,
Before your done,
To not crack a smile
And laugh awhile
And love the night away
Here comes the rainbow,
Here comes the sun,
Here comes the life the love the fun,
The green grass and memories,
The opulent ocean,
The sandy beach,
The sky the dirt a lone black leech,
A leech?
A leech!
A leech on me!
Look and see what cannot be!
It’s flicked off
Thank god I’m fine
Now please pass me some cherry wine,
Some flavor to return the day,
Some sanctity, to calm the fray.
Rain cold, stronger than most
But a lighthouse stands alone and defiant
Shining its light where others are silent,
Illuminating rocks, and the rain too
Reminding the ships it’s just a zoo
That despite the struggle
And a wayward world,
It’s definable, climbable, a hope will unfurl
I’m not that inspired
I’m really just quite tired
A poem a day
So write again
But of what I cannot say
A poem my friend
Please write some more
To keep the trend and make some lore
A poem--of what?--a poem you gnome!
Just scribble something, so my eyes can shut
Work today
and work some more
work like a dog
I said work till I snore
work till my body
is nothing but dust
work till my gears
become rounded and rust
work in the morning
don’t stop at the night
work for the glory
rise like a kite
and then when I’m old
and then when I’m broken
I’ll wave all my trophies
My life just a token
And where would I spend,
such a valuable piece?
What machine would accept
My sweat and my grease
Not one on earth
For on earth I’ll be dust
though certainly God,
For money he lusts
If work is so nice,
My payment for life,
then what did I buy
But a means for my vice
So Ill work for my love
Ill work for that life,
But if work is my purpose,
Then life is my price
Up and down the shipping line
The goods come in
They are divine
Apples and candies and horses and geese
Petrol and gears and a stronger made grease
Oh jeez
What is that
The skipper smiles
A man holds his hat
People ooh and some give an ah
What in tarnation
What is that thing's station?
Why would you ship that?
And who even buys that?
Is that even for sale
I've not seen anything like it
Don't look at me
I'm only the author
I've not a clue
Why someone would bother
But here it is,
Carted over the sea
And shipped off the boat,
On it's way to home
To some good buyer's boast
Why it was bought
And who it was for
I will forever be curious
I will forever implore
I am the fire
You are the flame
Together we burn
One and the same
The heat from our light
It brightens the night
A star for the shadows
A sign of delight
Where will you go
What will you see
Surely the world
Surely not me
Where will you go
What will you see
Mountains and trees
Cities and seas
Where will you go
What will you see
Girl with the golden hair
Healer with the fragrant stare
I hiked so many miles
Had so many smiles
I walked with a titan
Strolled by a bison
I talked with a girl
Saw her hair twirl
I sweated ten buckets
The sun caused a ruckus
I jumped from a rock
Her beauty but shocked
I floated by a whale
The strength of its tail
I swam in the sea
Turquoise and free
I stood on a mountain
A drink from a fountain
I slurped so much pop
Three burgers, four stops
I had so much fun
Is it already done?
Not satisfied,
with the way it is
Not done
Still happy
Just not content
I'm not angry at you,
But I am angry
I'm not distraught at you
But I am distraught
I'm not judging you
But I am judging
How could I not, when I see the world?
When a hundred million people suffer each day
And a hundred thousand more think that that's just okay
I'll make a hundred--no a thousand--opinions
Of now and the past
Till I've built a little framework to start building a cast
My eye will be critical
And my voice will be stern
One day the evil and the violence they will finally learn
But until that day,
Because it's not okay
I will be forever stubborn
I will have a pungent say
Five, ten, fifteen trees
I wonder how many there could be
Ten thousand branches
Ten million leaves
All stacked united
All proudly free
They sing as one
The wind it hums
Together they sway
Together they pray
I walk through their pews
My steps their news
And with their glory
Majestic and holy
I am but an ant
A word in their chant
Of the endless waves of swaying dream
Of the trees whose knowledge we may glean
